"Uniquely Washington" 2006 Annual Report Available via the Web

The University's 2006 Annual Report, which contains the audited financial statements
and footnotes, is now available at the website below.

The report includes financial highlights and stories of various research and
educational activities across campus.

http://www.washington.edu/admin/finacct/annual.report.archive.html

Any questions about the report can be directed to Jeff Follman in Financial Accounting at 206-543-3708 or jfollman@u. **************************************************************************

DELL COMPUTER TAX SETTLEMENT Many of you have or will be receiving checks related to a recent tax settlement. Dell was incorrectly charging sales tax on maintenance contracts from the period April 23, 1999 and February 1, 2005 and is now refunding its customers. Checks may be in the name of the University of Washington or in the name of an individual. BE AWARE, some of the checks are small (physically) and may not appear to be a check at first glance. Please visit the "News" section of the Financial Accounting website for further details and processing directions: http://www.washington.edu/admin/finacct/office/

*************************************************************************** Accounts Payable Customer Service Update Thanks to everyone who participated in the focus groups and the online survey for feedback to Accounts Payable about improvements to customer service. The AP Customer Service Project team presented a analysis and report of this feedback to project sponsors in December 2006. Attached is the full report: http://www.washington.edu/admin/payables/APCSI_Final_Report.html Next steps for the project team will be to identify the prioritized improvement opportunities and to develop teams to initiate short term improvements to these processes. If you have questions or comments about the report, please call Karen Long at 543-8831, or at klong@u. *********************************************************************** Feedback Wanted for FM SPOC Team! Financial Management's "Single Point of Contact" (SPOC) Team, is seeking campus input. The team's goal is to develop a mechanism to provide campus with a single point of contact so questions could be answered with fewer transfers and complex questions, spanning multiple units, could be addressed more effectively. Your input is needed as we scope the project and identify critical needs. A feedback session will be held on: Monday, February 26th 1:30-3:00 Gerberding 142 Please contact Tamara Young at youngtam@u to RSVP for the session. For other questions about the team, please contact Charles Bennett (charlesb@u.) or Jeff Follman (jfollman@u.). ***************************************************************************** Financial Desktop Customer Service Team Changes The Customer Service Team for the Financial Desktop now reports to Financial Management's Decision Support Center. Many of our campus customers have been requesting items (such as tailored reports) that the current state of the Desktop cannot provide. However, the Decision Support Center may have the needed capability. The contacts for Financial Desktop remain the same at 206-543-3877 or myfdhelp@u.washington.edu. Please contact Charles Bennett (charlesb@u.) or Erick Winger (erickw@u.) with any questions. ***************************************************************************** Direct Charging of Administrative and Clerical Salaries Federal examiners have identified Administrative and Clerical salaries, which should not routinely be charged directly to federal grants and contracts, as a cost item they will review in 2007. Take a few minutes to review GIM 23 to ensure your budgets are in compliance with federal and UW policies on direct charging these and other similar expenses: http://www.washington.edu/research/osp/gim/gim23a6.html#administrative If you have any questions, please contact the post award compliance unit in GCA at gcafco@u. **************************************************************************** New Computer and Supply Object Codes Do you ever go looking for a specific object code only to find that it doesn't exist and end up using the miscellaneous (XX-99) object code? Financial Accounting is working to analyze expenditures being charged to these miscellaneous object code categories. As a first step, we have identified the two most common expenditures to 05-99 (Miscellaneous Supplies and Materials) and have created new object codes for them: Object code 05-43 (Computer Accessories) and 05-65 (Training Materials). If you have any questions, please contact Financial Accounting at 221-7845 or accountg@u. **************************************************************************** 2006 1098T Tax Forms Available On-line The 2006 1098T tax forms will be available to students online starting Tuesday, January 16, 2007. To access individual 1098T forms please log on to the SFS Tax website at: www.washington.edu/students/sfs/sao/maintax.html Student Fiscal Services will mail a paper copy of the 2006 1098T form to all students by January 31, 2007. The paper copy will be sent to the student's billing address if they are currently registered. Any student not currently enrolled at the UW will have form mailed to the student's permanent address on file. Any questions regarding the 1098T forms can be referred to the SFS tax line at 206-221-2609 or taxquest@u. ****************************************************************************
