Merchant Services Digest #34 - Taking Credit Cards in the World of COVID-19

Topic: COVID19

In this challenging period, Merchant Services (OMS) wished to inform you of options to accept payment cards in a way that reduces COVID risk to our employees and customers.

In-Person Payments

If you take payments in person, all payment card terminals OMS provides include Tap…paying with your phone using Apple Pay or Google Pay. Using this function allows your customers to pay by “tapping” their phone near the terminal thus limiting physical contact to the payment card terminal and to your employees. If you have any questions on this feature, or are not sure if your payment card terminal has this function, please contact us at pcihelp@uw.edu.

Please note, due to the stay at home order, we are changing the way payment card terminals are delivered. Payment Card terminals will now be delivered directly to the merchant by our payment processor Elavon upon request. OMS staff is not available for in-person installs at this time.

Online Payments

Now more than ever, it is imperative to move payment card transactions to online websites. OMS has a contract with TouchNet, an e-commerce platform, to provide just that. Please watch our recorded TouchNet Week training for an introduction and reach out to us at pcihelp@uw.edu to begin the process of setting up a payment card website.

Electronic Checks

OMS is working on a contract with Heartland Payment Systems which will allow us to accept electronic checks through TouchNet. This is our top priority and we hope to have this completed as soon as possible. Please join our communications blast to receive updates. We will send out an announcement once this feature is ready for use. OMS stands ready to assist you in any way we can. Please let us know how we can help.
