BARC Planning

Business Continuity Planning (BARC)

What is BARC?

The University of Washington's Business, Academic & Research Continuity (BARC) program helps departments prepare for disruptions and continue critical services during and after unexpected events such as cyber incidents, severe weather, utility outages, or facility disruptions.

Why is FPB doing this?

Continuity planning helps FPB identify its most critical functions, understand key operational dependencies, and develop strategies to maintain services when normal operations are disrupted. All UW administrative, academic, and research units are expected to maintain continuity plans under UW policy.

What will we be doing?

Over the coming year, FPB teams will work together to:

  • Identify mission-critical services and activities.
  • Assess the impacts of potential disruptions.
  • Document key staffing, technology, and process dependencies.
  • Develop continuity and recovery strategies.
  • Build and maintain our plan in Husky Ready, UW's continuity planning platform.
