Guidance to ensure successful overtime practice & managing non-exempt employees:
Ensure Workday schedule matches hours worked per day for each employee as this is used to calculate overtime. If you are unsure what schedule is assigned or need to change a schedule in Workday contact finsshr@uw.edu.
Provide written documentation to each OT eligible employee of their hours of work, including their established meal period.
Require each employee to take their meal periods and track information both in Workday and on employee calendars (have them schedule meeting blocks on calendar for meal periods) to ensure employees receive uninterrupted mealtimes. Consider including meal periods on team shared calendars so other staff are aware of meal periods.
Ensure that all staff (exempt and non-exempt) are mindful of non-exempt staff requirements for meal and rest periods to avoid overtime issues.
Additional information and FAQ are available from the UW Compensation Site.
