Launching January of 2024
For Mentors
Who can be a mentor? We highly encourage members of Senior leaders to apply, and/or reach out to those in their department who they believe could be a good mentors. Individual contributors may be mentors; supervision of staff is not required to be a mentor.
Benefits of being a mentor include, but are not limited to:
- Satisfaction of using your skills and experience to help others meet their career and personal goals
- Supporting the University’s and FPB’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion effort, as mentoring helps level the playing field for those who may need coaching, an advocate, and/or a safe place to hear concerns
- Learning how to be a better supervisor and colleague from hearing a perspective that you may not hear from people in your department
- Getting an opportunity to “pay it forward.” Many leaders have benefited from being mentored during their careers, so here is your chance to help another member of the org

For Mentees
Build your self-confidence and learn from another person’s vision, experience, and knowledge. Learn more about yourself and develop your skills with one of our Mentors.
Who can be a mentee? This program is intended for both classified and professional staff within the org. Matching with a mentor will be prioritized for classified and professional staff at levels 5–8, as these groups may face greater challenges with equity, inclusion, career pathing, and advancement at the UW. Mentees will be matched with mentors outside their immediate department.
Benefits of being a mentee include, but are not limited to:
- 1:1 time to talk about career goals and goal setting
- Receive advice about professional development
- Gain a better understanding of how the organization works
- Gain networking opportunities
- Learn about other jobs and roles
- Learn how to advocate for yourself with a supportive resource
- Advice on interviewing skills
- Advice on how to advance within the organization
