About Us
The University of Washington Payroll Office, now part of Finance Planning and Budgeting (previously part of the ISC), ensures timely and accurate employee payments in accordance with University policies and legal requirements. We also handle deductions, withholdings, and tax reporting.
What we do:
- Payroll Processing: We are responsible for the administration of the payroll for all University of Washington employees. Departments are responsible for reviewing employee pay based on hours worked, performance, or other relevant factors. In cases of discrepancies, such as overpayments or underpayments, we partner with departments in rectifying these issues.
- Deductions Management: We manage income tax withholdings, Social Security, Medicare, and other voluntary and involuntary deductions.
- Distribute Pay: We disburse employee pay through direct deposit or other approved methods, ensuring timely and secure payment.
- Tax Compliance: We file tax returns for the University and produce necessary tax forms for employees (e.g., W-2, W-2C, 1042-S, 1099-R, Stipend Letter). This includes managing tax compliance for foreign national employees, out-of-state, and out-of-country employees. We do not offer tax advice.
- Records and Reporting: We maintain accurate pay data and records required for reporting to government agencies.
- Resolves Issues: We address payroll-related inquiries or issues raised by employees and departments via tickets, phone calls or walk-ins.
