Institutional Reporting & Analysis

Institutional Reporting & Analysis is the institutional research arm of the University of Washington - Seattle. Comprising two teams that work independently but collaboratively, Institutional Reporting and Institutional Analysis ensure the university has trustworthy data and the insight to use it well.

Institutional Reporting is UW's central resource for institutional data, official counts, and external compliance reporting. The team maintains the university's official enrollment and faculty/staff counts, submits mandated reports to federal and state agencies (including IPEDS and other regulatory bodies), and serves as the authoritative source for data requested by accrediting bodies, government agencies, and university leadership.

Institutional Analysis provides accurate, meaningful analysis to inform decision-making across the university. Key areas of impact include:

  • Enrollment — trends, projections, and patterns across campuses and programs
  • Faculty positions & instructional workload — staffing analysis and teaching capacity
  • Student outcomes — retention, graduation rates, and post-graduation success
  • Rankings — analysis and context for national and international ranking methodologies
  • Strategic data requests — custom analysis supporting university planning and policy decisions

Together, the two teams give UW leadership, faculty, and staff the data foundation and analytical insight needed to understand the university and guide its future.
