Getting Access to ECC
To access ECC, a UW employee must be active and have a UW NetID. To view or take action in ECC, a system role is required.
ECC Roles and Responsibilities
There are six roles in ECC:
- Effort Coordinator - Completes the initial review and marks statement “Pre Reviewed”, makes adjustments such as processing a “shift in effort”. Resources for Effort Coordinators are available on the For Effort Coordinators webpage.
- Primary Effort Coordinator - Each department must have one Primary Effort Coordinator, who is shown in their department list highlighted in yellow. The Primary Department Coordinator is responsible for any departments to which they are assigned.
- Certifier - Completes the certification for both Effort and Project Statements. Resources for Certifiers are available on the For Effort Certifiers webpage.
- Grant Manager - This role must be specifically assigned and allows the user to see assigned Project Statements on their ECC homepage.
- Proxy - An individual who certifies an Effort Statement in absence of the faculty. This may be needed for employees on leave or sabbatical, or who have left UW.
- Designee - An individual who certifies a Project Statement in absence of the PI.
To complete Effort Coordinator tasks in ECC, you must have the "Coordinator" system role. This role is granted centrally by Post Award Fiscal Compliance as well as coordinator/department relationships with the cost centers in your department. Coordinator/department relationships can also be granted centrally by a request to effortreporting@uw.edu.
If you are not sure if you have an assigned role, login to ECC. If you only have the "Home" and "Links" menu sections, you do not have an assigned role in the system. Contact effortreporting@uw.edu to request access.

ECC System Status
The ECC system restarts daily at 6:30pm PST. Expect access to be limited or unavailable for about 15-20 minutes during this time each day. Access should be restored by 7pm daily, but system performance may be impacted on Mondays after 7pm when data for the week is loading.
