Dear Colleagues,

As the University of Washington has been proactive with response to COVID-19, and the implementation of plans to move all instruction and exams out of the classroom, we in CORE feel the need to be similarly responsive. We will offer alternatives to our in-person classes until the situation with COVID-19 is resolved to the point where we can again safely resume these classes.

Our first action was to cancel the last course of Winter quarter, “Managing Cost Share.” This course has been rescheduled. The first course of Spring quarter, “Introduction to Research Administration,” scheduled for March 31, will now be offered using Zoom only. We recognize that this format may impact the course dynamic, but we know it is the responsible approach at this time. If you have already registered for this class, keep an eye out for the email that will come from corehelp@uw.edu with instructions on how to access the Zoom link for this class. There are strong indications that the April 7 class, “Blueprint of a Proposal,” will also need to be offered via Zoom; we may need to Zoom courses well into spring quarter. We will communicate such changes via the MRAM listserv and on the course registration webpage. Please check the registration webpage for updates as they develop.

We recognize that many of you are working towards your Certificate in Research Administration and some may even be close to finalizing your certificate. We hope to support your progress by offering our in-person classes via Zoom (until we can go back to teaching in-person). Remember, there are also six on-demand classes included in the certificate that you can complete online at any time.

In President Cauce’s recent message to campus she wrote, “…as stressful as I know this experience has been for all of us, I am uplifted and reassured by all the ways people across our University community are working to keep everyone safe, calm and prepared to weather this crisis.” CORE will continue to support our learners in the most effective way possible. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we develop processes for providing our in-person courses in an alternative format in order to address the unique challenges we face as a learning community at this time. We will be letting you know when we resume in-person courses, and will provide updates as needed.
