Dear Colleagues,

As you know, the UW is implementing a phased, gradual, and thoughtful approach to Returning to In-Person Research.

Any return to in-person research must be accompanied by a plan and carried out under a set of restrictions as described in the links below, including limiting the number of researchers in a UW research facility at any one time. In addition, it is still the case that no one can be pressured to carry out on-site research if they are concerned about their safety, the safety of others, or if they have home-care obligations. Your HR representative can help you with any difficult situations in that regard. If you have questions about staff who support research, please contact your HR representative.

As promised, we have developed a set of resources to help research groups, unit heads, and dean’s offices plan and implement this phased approach as part of the Governor’s Phase 1. Here is the link to the new webpage, Guidance for Returning to In-Person Research that has these resources.

In addition, we have updated the Mitigating Impacts to Research Activities due to COVID-19 webpage accordingly and link to our new Guidance page. (Note that the URL for the Mitigating Impacts webpage has not changed).

Please feel free to reach out to us for assistance, questions, or comments. We will be updating these resources as we get feedback, and will be adding FAQs and other resources soon, so please check back often.

All the best,

Mary Lidstrom
