Dear Colleagues,

A few updates have been made to research guidance in the past two weeks. I am sending you a summary with links, so you have these available. Please forward to others as appropriate. Please be sure to let the Office of Research know if you have any questions.

  1. Guidance for carrying out field work: A sample plan, a decision tree, and some FAQs are now available on the Mitigating Impacts web page. Just scroll down until you come to the Fieldwork section.
  2. Human Subjects Research. Effective May 22, some additional human subjects research is now allowed.
  3. Research that requires less than 6 foot distance: In limited circumstances, it is possible to carry out research that requires less than 6 foot distance. Please see this guidance for more details.

In all cases, the amount of time working in close contact should be kept to a minimum, less than 15 minutes if at all possible. Extra PPE is required, and a Health and Safety Plan for such work must be approved by the Department Chair or equivalent.

Regards,

Mary Lidstrom, Vice Provost for Research
