This email is to inform you about two upcoming changes to the Faculty Grants Management training. These changes are based on feedback from our evaluations and constituents, as part of our continuing efforts to enhance support of research administration at UW.

First, we are changing the name of the session to “Grants Management for Investigators” to reflect the fact that not all investigators are faculty.

Second, we are changing the time when investigators will be required to take this training. Currently, the requirement starts at the time of their first grant award and we are changing this to the time of their first proposal in SAGE. This change will allow us to give first time investigators this crucial information earlier in their research career at the UW. This training is also open to all staff involved in research administration who support investigators.

These changes will take effect July 1, 2020. Since the new requirement is expected to initially create higher demand for the training, we will provide two options: 1) a live Zoom session on October 21st and 2) the recording of the May 18th session, which has been posted and is available to investigators who may not be able to join the October session.

The official policy letter replaces Steve Olswang’s letter of 1994.

Thank you for helping with this change, as we all work to support UW investigators.

Thank you,
Mary Lidstrom
Vice Provost for Research
