Good Afternoon Health and Safety Chairs, Co-chairs, Safety Directors, Safety Officers, and other Representatives,

The University’s 2020 OSHA 300A Summaries (https://www.ehs.washington.edu/workplace/accident-and-injury-reporting#OSHA300 ) are now posted on the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) website.

Please post the appropriate OSHA300A form for your location in your buildings and forward this information to department administrators or other appropriate contacts. The summaries are required to be posted from February 1, 2021 through April 30, 2021 in a location where employees can easily access them. During the COVID-19 pandemic, providing easy access can be challenging. EH&S suggests you make these summaries available to staff in a variety of ways to ensure everyone has access.  Posting the applicable paper summary on a department bulletin board or in a break room is preferred if people are in the workplace. For those who telework, consider posting the information on your department website, SharePoint Site, Google Drive, or Microsoft Teams.

Please be aware that I have already forwarded this message to the building coordinator distribution list coordinator.

OSHA 300A summaries show the number and type of work-related recordable injuries and illnesses. Recordable injuries and illnesses are considered serious in nature and result when any of the following occur: death, days away from work, restricted work or transfer to another job, medical treatment beyond first aid, loss of consciousness, or a significant injury or illness diagnosed by a licensed health care professional.

The incident rate of recordable injuries over time can be viewed here. The overall rate for all UW in 2020 increased from 3.11 in 2019 to 3.56 in 2020.  The rate for the UW excluding the medical centers decreased from 1.6 in 2019 to 0.8 in 2020. The changes were influenced primarily by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Questions about the OSHA 300A summaries or about injuries and illnesses in general may be directed to EH&S at injury@uw.edu or 206.543.7388.

Thank you,
