NIH Child Care Allowance
Q: When the administrative process for the NIH childcare allowance is finally in place, will the allowance be retroactive in any way or will trainees be "missing out" on the benefit for these first few weeks? (No, the allowance will cover expenses for the entire year, up to $2500)
A: Once the administrative process are in place, the NIH Childcare Allowance for Fellows will be retroactive to its effective date of 8 April 2021. Fellows will not be “missing out” on any funds.

NIH Biosketch and Other Support Format Pages
To accommodate the volume of questions we received on this topic we created two FAQ pages on the Office of Research website. NIH has also released some updated FAQs related to the topics of Other Support and Foreign Components. As more questions come in and NIH clarifies their guidance, we will continue to update these FAQs. Links to these resources are included here for your reference.

NIH Current Policies: What We are Seeing
Q1: Appendix doc allowed to add form requesting specific institute review?
A1: The PHS Assignment Request Form can be used to communicate specific application assignment and review preferences to NIH. It will not be part of the assembled application and is not made available to program staff or reviewers. Using the "Add Optional Form" creates a tab for this non-required form in the ASSIST application. The Assignment Request form is distinct from Section 12. Appendix of the PHS 398 Research Plan.
Q2: What about including links as supporting information only? For example, we have a P01 competing renewal proposal where one of the Cores is all about data sharing & a centralized repository. We want to include a link to the repository for information purposes only; would this trigger any problem?
A2: It is highly unusual for a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) to allow links in Specific Aims, Research Strategy and other page-limited attachments. Hyperlinks and URLs are only allowed when specifically noted in a FOA and form field instructions. Hyperlinks are typically limited to citing relevant publications in biosketches and publication lists. If the specific instructions for the opportunity does not state hyperlinks are allowed, do not include them.
