What is the NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRP)?
NIH will help repay student loan debt to encourage outstanding health professionals in the pursuit of research careers in biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. Loan repayment benefits are in addition to the institutional salary received for research. The LRP online application is open this year from September 1 to November 17.
Six Extramural Loan Repayment Application Sub-Categories
If you are or will be conducting at least two years of qualified research funded by a domestic nonprofit organization institution outside NIH, you may be eligible for one of the five extramural LRPs:
- Clinical Research [lrp.nih.gov]
- Pediatric Research [lrp.nih.gov]
- Health Disparities Research [lrp.nih.gov]
- Contraception and Infertility Research [lrp.nih.gov]
- Clinical Research for Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds [lrp.nih.gov]
- Research on Emerging Areas Critical to Human Health (REACH) [lrp.nih.gov]
Restrictions:
Only ONE LRP application per individual may be submitted to NIH in any fiscal year.
