Effective today, 8/23/18, you will see a new Notes field in the eFECs Cost Share Summary Application

This field is designed to allow central office staff (GCA, Post Award Fiscal Compliance, and Management Accounting & Analysis) to add comments related to cost share on a specific budget, e.g. whether the commitment has been met. Campus users will have read-only access to these notes. This will provide more insight and transparency on changes made or analysis completed.

Earlier this month, we shared news of the NIH’s new Human Subjects System (HSS). Linked to both eRA Commons & ASSIST, PIs use HSS to update human subjects information related to their NIH grants, most frequently annual inclusion enrollment reports.

As with any new system, there can be growing pains. An automated message is currently going out to PIs when NIH staff take initial action for a study in HSS. NIH indicated PIs can ignore this automated email.

Help Prevent Submission Headaches: Proposal Format Reminders

Incorrect formatting can prevent proposal submission to Grants.gov and other sponsor systems. Thankfully, these errors are relatively easy to fix in advance if you know what to look for.

We have found that some versions of Word auto-correct quotation marks from “straight” to “curly”. If these curly quotes are routed in an application to Grants.gov, an error results which will prevent submission until corrected.

On June 8th, NIH is rolling out a new Human Subjects System (HSS), which will replace their Inclusion Management System (IMS) and provide expanded functionality.

As you recall, NIH recently released SF424 Forms E with a new Human Subjects and Clinical Trials (HSCT) form. The HSS will be the channel for making updates to data previously entered on the HSCT form within proposals.

As NIH replaces the IMS, some data will migrate to the new HSS.
