PAFC Hot Topic: Recent Audit Results

Q1: If travel was to present research findings, would it be acceptable? Would that make it reasonable or allocable?
A1:Even if the travel actually benefits the award, the fact it occurred after the end of the award is the issue. If there needs to be travel that occurs after the end of the award, and the travel benefits the award objectives, a no-cost extension should be requested. Auditors will disallow travel that occurs after the end of the period of performance, regardless of whether or not the travel benefits the award. We recommend requesting an extension on the award if travel is required after the end of the period of performance.

Q2: I'm just curious if the NSF cost share findings included subaward cost share or if mostly UW?
A2: Auditors will examine all aspects of the award, including subawards and any associated cost share. In the audit examples noted at MRAM, the NSF auditors did review the cost share contributions from subawards.

While we had some technical challenges with our meeting link in July, those issues have been resolved. Next month, we return to our regularly scheduled link to our MRAM Webinar on August 11th at 9am

Thank you,
