Effective April 2021, NIH has made a childcare allowance available on its NRSA Fellowship awards. The maximum amount of the allowance is $2,500 per budget year per fellow (not per child).
Fellows may now be reimbursed for qualified childcare expenses on NRSA Fellowship awards.

At this time, the NIH Childcare Allowance applies only to fellows appointed to an NRSA Fellowship (“F-Series”). Per NIH policy, individuals appointed to NRSA Training Grants (“T-Series”) are not yet eligible to receive this allowance.
