What is the NIH LRP?
NIH will help repay a portion of early-career researcher's qualifying educational debt in return for engaging in research areas that support the NIH mission.
The Office of Research has just launched a valuable new web tool, Shared Research Facilities and Resources! The tool offers an index of resources that include essential services, advanced instrumentation, and technical expertise needed for cutting-edge research. This searchable list of detailed profile pages can be found on the Collaboration Tab on the Research home page. Thanks to all within OR, and across campus who have helped with this project.
Please note that in the interests of fairness and sustainability, the Office of Research has determined that the Visiting International Student Internship & Training (VISIT) program fee waiver will be discontinued as of June 2019. This policy change will be phased in as follows: program fee waiver applications will continue to be accepted until January 1, 2019, and any students who are granted fee waivers must start their internship at the University of Washington no later than June 1, 2019.
There have been some recent improvements made to the Grant and Contract Certification Report (GCCR) process (https://finance.uw.edu/maa/gccr).
The GCCR reports have been enhanced, they are now organized by Organization Code of the corresponding budget’s home department. In the past, the GCCR reports were organized by the Workday Unit Code (WUC) of the budget’s home department.
Effective today, 8/23/18, you will see a new Notes field in the eFECs Cost Share Summary Application.
This field is designed to allow central office staff (GCA, Post Award Fiscal Compliance, and Management Accounting & Analysis) to add comments related to cost share on a specific budget, e.g. whether the commitment has been met. Campus users will have read-only access to these notes. This will provide more insight and transparency on changes made or analysis completed.
The MyResearch Portal is a personalized suite of dashboards that provide views into a researcher's portfolio of pending applications and incoming awards, non-award agreements, and training records.
Earlier this month, we shared news of the NIH’s new Human Subjects System (HSS). Linked to both eRA Commons & ASSIST, PIs use HSS to update human subjects information related to their NIH grants, most frequently annual inclusion enrollment reports.
As with any new system, there can be growing pains. An automated message is currently going out to PIs when NIH staff take initial action for a study in HSS. NIH indicated PIs can ignore this automated email.
Incorrect formatting can prevent proposal submission to Grants.gov and other sponsor systems. Thankfully, these errors are relatively easy to fix in advance if you know what to look for.
We have found that some versions of Word auto-correct quotation marks from “straight” to “curly”. If these curly quotes are routed in an application to Grants.gov, an error results which will prevent submission until corrected.
Members of the UW Research Community:
This is to announce the Autumn 2018 round of the Royalty Research Fund (RRF) grant program. The RRF proposal submission and review process is electronic - all proposals are submitted using SAGE (System to Administer Grants Electronically). Proposals are due Monday, September 24, by 5:00 PM. Awards will be announced by January 15, 2019.
