Accidently deleted my entire course

Restoring an Entire Course that has been Deleted

Note:

  • To accomplish this, you will need to know the course id number of the deleted course, which is usually found in the URL of the course: https://uwoms.instructure.com/courses/XXXXX
  • The easiest way to find this information is to run the Recently Deleted Courses report found in Admin > Reports

Accidently used the 'Reset Course Content' feature

If you’ve accidentally used the "Reset Course Content" feature, all content will be wiped. Unfortunately, there’s no simple way to recover it directly. However, there is a workaround using the BETA environment.

Steps to Recover Your Content:

  1. Access the BETA environment as quickly as possible
  2. Locate the same course that was reset
  3. Export the course content as a package (ZIP) file
  4. Re-import the ZIP file back into your Canvas production environment

Notes:

  • The BETA environment resets EVERY SATURDAY, so you must retrieve your content within the same week it was reset.
  • After the reset, the content will be permanently lost if not recovered in time.
