- Can you clarify between those who are matriculated and those that have a UW NetID? We have sponsored NetIDs… some of which are matriculated some not.
-
Our central subscription for Canvas already pays for matriculated students and employees; non-matriculated learners are individuals who are external to UW, e.g. not students enrolled in a credit-bearing course or degree, or are not employees of the UW or UW Medicine. Some affiliates are covered (such as Seattle Children’s faculty), so if you have questions about affiliates, please contact help@uw.edu with your question.
- In our current canvas instance for this year, are users with UW NetID also free? For example, hired interns over the summer.
-
Yes, you do not need to count UW employees in your annual purchase of non-matriculated learner fees or short/micro course enrollments.
- If one wanted to introduce a registration form, is it expected that would happen in TouchNet as part of its checkout process?
-
Catalog allows you to collect custom information from a learner when they create their account, but not for each course they purchase/enroll in. The recommendation for gathering information for each course is to make a form/survey the first activity in a course; you can even make availability of the rest of the course content contingent on completion of the form.
- Can the sub-accounts have sub-accounts with distinct branding?
-
Yes, each subaccount/subcatalog can have its own brand and/or theme to support your program brand identity.
- Can we enroll people without using TouchNet?
-
The payment gateway TouchNet will be integrated for courses that are charging a fee. If your course is free, there will be no integration with TouchNet. You can also manually enroll learners or bulk enroll learners, without going through the Catalog listing. However, this is a primary benefit of using Catalog.
- Our use has drastically changed (reduced) and it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to keep paying for this right now. If we decide not to renew our Canvas Instance this year but then find we have the need again in the future, will we pay the implementation fee again?
-
Yes, if you retire your Canvas instance, and then need it in the future, you would be required to pay the one-time implementation fees again. If you want to keep your instance without any users, Instructure doesn’t have any issues with that
- Can Catalog be used to purchase items/course/events outside of Canvas?
-
Live events could work, if you also create a simple course in Canvas with a page of information, or files, relevant to the event. OMS also provides Touchnet Marketplace, which might meet your needs for merchandise; contact pcihelp@uw.edu for more information.
- What administrative rights would you expect that we will have within our own subaccounts within the Merchant Services Instance? Basically, what degree of admin control would we have both in Canvas and in Catalog?
-
Great question. The specific permissions for subaccount admins haven't been determined yet, since the OMS Catalog instance hasn't been set up. We have discussed generous permissions, but haven't worked through it yet.
- Can't a TouchNet product be made to do the enrollment and payment side? I'm trying to see the value added on this.
-
Catalog provides a seamless integration with Canvas, including the course listings, payment, enrollment in the course, learner account creation in Canvas, a student dashboard for navigating to courses and retrieving certificates. It also provides reporting and analytics for tracking enrollments, course completions of programs/events, and so on.
- Is there self-registration for accounts? Can you show what the user registration process looks like?
-
Yes, if they don’t already have an account, learners create an account when they purchase a course. Subcatalogs can set up custom information to be gathered as users create their account.
- How would custom demographic information be collected for user accounts?
-
The data gathered when a user account is created can be customized by the subcatalog admin.
- Can we pre-register a cohort of students?
-
Yes, you can bulk register learners for courses.
- Can we import previous credits too?
-
Sort of. You can manually enroll learners in courses, and then set them to completed. This would enable learners to retrieve certificates for these previous courses.
- If a user creates an account but does not enroll in any courses, is there a charge for that user?
-
No. Active learners are determined by signing in to Canvas and viewing or interacting in a course during the contract (fiscal) year. So people who shop/create an account, but don’t enroll or view a course would not be counted in Canvas as active.
- Any restrictions on running an entire degree program through Canvas Catalog?
-
The OMS Catalog instance is only for non-matriculated learners, not degree or credit bearing courses/programs.
- Sorry this might be a question for down the line, but have y'all worked out who would be the top-end support for escalation purposes? Like would that be OMS or UW-IT
-
For the OMS offering, OMS will be first tier support.
- How do certificates work in Catalog?
-
Certificates can be added for courses or programs. Here’s more information:
