UW 1099 Payee Data Collection Threshold

The University of Washington is updating its internal policy regarding the threshold for collecting payee tax information for reporting purposes. Effective January 1, 2026, the threshold for collecting payee tax information related to Form 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC reporting will increase from $600 to $1,500.

What's Changing

  • The data collection threshold for 1099-reporting will increase from $600 to $1,500.
  • This update will be applied automatically by Procurement Services, Accounts Payable, and related central offices.
  • Transactions previously returned under the $600 threshold may now be resubmitted for review under the new $1,500 threshold.

What You Need To Do

  • Continue processing payments as usual.
  • No action is required from campus units unless additional documentation is requested for compliance purposes.
  • If a transaction was returned under the previous threshold, please resubmit it so it can be reviewed under the new policy.
